Community Notification Program
The Branford Police Department is now offering citizen's and business alerts through a grant provided by ALCOA-Howmet of Branford.  This program is for people who wish to receive alerts from the Branford Police through email or text messaging to your cell phone.  The alerts can range from amber alerts regarding abducted children, crime notifications to emergency management notifications such as flooding.

Goals of the School Resource Officer Program

  • Bridge the gap between police officer and young people and increase positive attitudes toward law enforcement
  • Teach the value of our legal system
  • Promote respect for people and property
  • Reduce juvenile crime by helping students formulate an awareness of rules, authority and justice
  • Allow students access to the legal system
  • Give students a realistic picture of our laws and legal system so they will have an investment in supporting and improving it
  • Teach students how to avoid becoming a victim through self awareness and crime prevention

Roles and Responsibilities of the School Resource Officer

  • Work closely with school principal, meeting at least on weekly basis
    Provide a program of educational leadership to students addressing various issues
  • Act as a communication liaison with other law enforcement agencies
  • Gather information regarding potential problems such as criminal activity and identify particular students who may be a disruptive influence to the school and/or students
  • Take steps appropriate and consistent with a law enforcement officer's duty when a crime occurs
  • Refers students and their families to the appropriate agency for assistance when a need is determined
  • Attend meetings of parent groups and faculty-wide in-service sessions
  • Available for conferences with students, parents, and faculty to assist with problems related to law enforcement and crime prevention
  • Confer with school administration to develop strategies to prevent or minimize dangerous situations on or near the campus
  • Attend school functions and extracurricular events
